The book No More Dead Dogs is about a normal junior high football player; Wallace, whom gets caught up in this play about the book he is in detention for. In 7th grade Wallace was a bench warmer for his football team, until the last game when he won it at the last second with an awesome touchdown. Ever since then everyone has called him the famous Wallace Wallace. When he was in 8th grade many people had respect for him and not only because of the touchdown, but because he was known for his honesty. Ever since he was little, his dad had always lied to him and his mom, and because of that he swore that he would never become like his dad. Since then he hasn't told a lie and doesn't plan to. But sometimes you just need to been the truth to get through. What gets him into trouble is his ability to blatantly state the truth. When his English class was assigned to write a summary on the book called Old Sheep, My Pal, Wallace wrote his summary truthfully. He stated how boring it was and how he hated that the dog died in the end. But this summary didn't go so well with his teacher. His teacher Mr. Fogelman put Wallace on detention until he redid his summary. Wallace's refusal to lie and say how much he loved the book when in fact he hated it got him suspended from the football team. Everyone on the team blamed their losses on him. They say that if he were there then they would win because of his touchdown last season. Wallace's detentions were held in the gym because Mr. Fogelman was the play director for the play Old Sheep My Pal. While he served his detention he also gave the play suggestions on how to make it better. Over time the play had changed drastically and basically most of the script had been changed my Wallace's suggestions because everyone loved all of his ideas. Mr. Fogelman realized that his play was getting out of control, but what could he do about it? There had been attempts to ruin the play by someone and many people pointed at Wallace for this phenomenon. But over time people started thinking other wise because of all the help that he had given to them. Over time Wallace had enjoyed helping the drama kids out and had forgotten about the football team. Even though his team were always getting on his case about writing the report that they even offered writing it for him. When Wallace showed no signs of even caring about not being on the team anymore, his whole team started to hate him. In the end, Wallace helped out the play in so many different aspects, that he even convinced them to not let the dog die in the end. The play turned out into a great hit and everyone thanked him for it. After the play he was off detention, met a girl he liked (Rachel, the lead cast of the play, and was back on his warm up bench. |
